We are excited to offer performers the opportunity to act, sing and dance their way through Powell Civic Theatre’s production of “The Wizard of Oz-Youth Edition!” This opportunity is for performers ages 8-16.

Lancaster High School theatre director Ryan Metzger will direct , along with Cindy Straub and Emily Lawless, this hour long show, where Dorothy and her friends, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion travel to meet the Wizard of OZ, along with munchkins and other magical characters!

Once you have signed up for this program or if you have any questions, you are asked to email Cindy Straub at cindysstraub@gmail.com and she will send the details about the production to you. At the first session, auditions will be held, and all participants will be assigned to play their part in the show. If you are looking to play a leading role, you are asked to text a video of you singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” or “If I Only Had a Brain” to Cindy at (614) 270-5350 no later than March 7th. Please make sure to include the performer’s name.

The rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons from 1 pm-5 pm starting on March 9th through May 11th. There will be no rehearsals on April 6th or April 20th. We do accept conflicts. The week of May12-15 we will meet in the East Community Room from 6-8 pm. This is known as “Tech Week” where we will put all aspects of the show together. The performances will be at 7:30 pm on May16th and 17th at 7:30 pm. Performers will meet in the East Community Room at 6 pm on performance days.

Due to the cost to produce the show including rights to the musical there will be no refunds after the start of the program.

For rehearsals, wear clothing that is easy to move in and shoes that you can dance in. Jazz shoes or sneakers are the best shoes to move and dance in-Boots, sandals and Crocs don't work well for dancing. Please bring water and a pen or pencil to rehearsals. More information will follow on costumes. The performers will provide the base for their costume. This would be a shirt, pants, skirt, dress, etc.
